I’ve been working endlessly to finish my book and keep up with life. Before I dive back in to full time reviewing again on this blog, I thought I’d finally share this.

On the fall equinox last year I had a two-day multi-media retrospective art show. I kicked off the evening with a reading of a few of my reviews and ended the show the next day with a little art talk. It took all the energy I had for the rest of the year.

I’m a sucker for special anniversaries and it was a needed push for my own sake, but it’s an odd thing to put an art show together all on your own. My brother Peter (who is an incredible photographer) rolled by with his camera and caught some stunning images of the night.

It felt very self-serving in a way, but celebrating the writing, process, and art that’s kept me going all this time felt like the right thing to do. I had a row of all my horror fashion review zines I managed to deconstruct and hang from the ceiling.

All three of my VHS compilations I made were playing at different stations around the room. I had a few collages I made specifically for the show as well as hundreds of photos of what I’d made over the years. I didn’t have any financial backing and paid for everything myself. I had a few friends and my husband to help install on the morning of.

Thankfully I have some great friendships in the community and the space was given to me for free by my friends at Ochos in downtown Boise.

My friend Ben took all the photos below of set-up and later that first night.

It was a dream to put this together. I had just a small little whisper of feeling accomplished. Seeing everything displayed and laid out that I had made or written over the five years before, filling an entire room was a bit overwhelming.

In a way it feels as if I’m seeing all these photos for the first time. I’m thankful for what this blog and my writing has given to me, and hopefully to others. I’m excited to see how much more it will offer.
